HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY, DANIEL BARENBOIM!

EuroArts Music congratulates and is proud to have been associated with such a versatile and unique artist for 20 years now!

In time to mark his seventieth birthday, Daniel Barenboim has just received the prestigious German ECHO Klassik for his life's work. He is renowned for leaving his musical mark, as is shown by numerous awards and honours, among them seven Grammy Awards. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of our time.

Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven. In 1999 Barenboim, together with the Palestinian literary scholar Edward Said, founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which is made up of young musicians from eight ethnic groups from the Arab world and Israel. It is Barenboim's heartfelt wish that hostile ethnic groups come closer and learn to tolerate each other through music. The recording of the memorable concert in Ramallah in August 2005, together with Paul Smaczny's highly acclaimed and award-winning documentary Knowledge Is The Beginning, plus a conversation between Barenboim and Edward Said, forms an altogether worthy means of celebrating Barenboim's birthday which is released on DVD in November 2012 .

EuroArts is paying homage to the successful musician in a second outstanding release: Barenboim's complete concert cycle of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas , directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. All piano sonatas have been carefully restored and digitalized from 35 mm negative film, resulting in a considerable high video and audio quality. The complete edition on 3 Blu-ray discs will be released in November, together with the first of 5 DVDs with Sonatas 1-6.
